NCL champions global dental education
NCL staff were in the Philippines recently as part of our international commitment to better dental health.
In a ground-breaking initiative, representatives from New College Lanarkshire recently journeyed to the Philippines as part of the UK-China-Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) Countries Education Partnership Initiative. Kate Wilson, Lesley Nelson, Julie McKenna, and Hazel Scott embarked on this educational odyssey, which aims to enhance Dental Nursing education across partner institutions in China, Mongolia, and the Philippines.
Securing the grant in 2019 paved the way for a transformative project that has been in full swing. The recent visit marked the 3rd meeting of all partners and took place at the esteemed National University of the Philippines. The primary goal of the initiative is to promote and elevate Dental Nursing education standards within the partner countries.
After three years of virtual collaboration necessitated by the pandemic, the visit provided a rare opportunity for face-to-face interactions, fostering stronger ties between the partnering organisations. Beyond the project-centric meetings, the National University of the Philippines played host to an International Dental Symposium. Drawing over 300 Dentistry students, the symposium featured international lecturers and industry practitioners from all four partner countries, shedding light on dental nursing education in their respective regions.
The highlight of this collaborative effort was the formal signing of a Memorandum of Understanding among the partners. This historic agreement aims to fortify international relationships and elevate the quality of dental nursing education globally. The partners are set to engage in academic exchange programs and other multilateral activities to further enhance the field.
New College Lanarkshire continues to play a pivotal role in shaping the future of dental education not just locally but on a global scale. Stay tuned for more updates as we contribute to the advancement of Dental Nursing education worldwide
