Painting - Short Course
Overview
This short Painting course is designed to provide students with a range of skills and would be a suitable starting point for students who either have or are thinking of applying for one of the pre-apprentice courses starting in August. As a student you will focus your studies on painting, preparing to study for a City and Guilds qualification after the summer. You will work alongside an established group of students allowing you to experience a practical element of the course and importantly college life, without the worry of sitting formal assessments.
You will be able to experience college life and make an informed decision on how this would suit you for the following academic session, all while engaging in meaningful and exciting learning.
Entry
Along with general experience of mature students. National 4 qualifications in Construction or similar technical discipline would be a considerable advantage to prospective students. Applicants must be 16 years old by the end of September 2025 to commence this course.
Learn
On this course, you will learn the same skills that will be required in the Pre-Apprentice suite of courses next session, completing the same work as current students, without the need for formal assessment.

- An introduction to college life to enable a change for school leavers
- Skills required in the workplace
Working patterns
The course runs over two full days practical work and a half day which sometimes includes some classroom-based work.
Work Placement
Engagement with employers through work placements may be available for students who excel in their studies and attitudes, they must show a genuine desire to enter the industry to be considered.
