NQ Performing Arts
Overview
The NQ Performing Arts course at New College Lanarkshire is designed as a stepping stone for potential students looking to build on existing experience in performing arts or those who are seeking to gain experience. The course offers opportunities to explore acting, singing, movement, devising, dance, voice, theatre studies, stage craft, audition technique, screen acting. Delivered in studio spaces by highly accomplished, professional staff, the course will help students develop their abilities and prepare them for further training.
Entry
Although some experience in performing arts is desirable, it isn't essential. Anyone with a passion for the arts can apply.
Applicants will be invited to attend an audition and interview where they will perform chosen monologues from published plays (more details are available once interviews/auditions are arranged) and take part in a short interview and workshop session.
An English qualification is desirable but not essential.

Classes are tailored to cover a wide variety of performance skills such as:
Acting – From classical to modern, looking at different styles, genres and practitioners
Voice and Singing - New College Lanarkshire is highly regarded as one of the leading centres for voice and singing
Movement - with most professional productions now incorporating movement into their work, movement is an essential part of the coursework at New College Lanarkshire - across all areas: acting, musical theatre and dance
Audition Technique - through workshops such as dance, script and camera, voice classes, movement classes and singing lessons, students will be given an invaluable grounding in the process of auditions, in preparation for future interviews and further training
Devising Theatre - as improvisation and collaboration make up a large section of modern theatre practice, the skill of devising is vital and one that will be explored in workshops and classes throughout the year
Stage Craft - understanding the nature of stage craft and the skill of story-telling is essential for any performer. With highly trained staff all heavily experienced in the performing arts industry, students training will look in detail at stage craft
Screen Acting - The skill of screen acting is a vital part of any performing arts training. Utilising high quality screen equipment. classes are designed to give students the best grounding in film and television performance
