Introduction to Animal care and Horticulture

Overview

This course is for anyone who would like to start a career in land-based industries, in particular Animal Care or Horticulture.

You should have an interest in learning and working either with animals or in horticulture or in environmental conservation.

Entry
  • Four National 4 or equivalent: You will need N4 in English and Maths and at least one N4 in science (Biology desirable).
  • A demonstrated interest in working within land-based industries.
  • Some experience working with animals, horticulture or environmental conservation would be advantageous.
  • Completion of a detailed Personal Statement is a requirement for interview.

This course is designed to help you gain the knowledge and skills required for working in land-based industries and start a career in the sector.

This course provides you with the foundations of animal care and horticulture and you will have the opportunity to explore careers available in these areas.

On the course you will study subjects such as:

  • Animal Physiology
  • First Aid for Small Animals
  • Causes and Prevention of Disease in Animals
  • Allotment Gardening
  • Plant Propagation & Health
  • Environmental Issues
  • Career in land-based industries

There is also a work placement in either Animal Care or Horticulture.
