HNC Wildlife and Conservation Management

Overview

This course will help gain a good knowledge and understanding of land use and the human impact on wildlife.

You will gain the practical hands-on skills to understand and manage a variety of local, national and international habitats. You will learn about the current issues in conservation and how to sustainably protect and manage habitats and the species living in them for future generations.

 

Entry

This course is for anyone who would like to start a career in animal wildlife conservation.

You should have an interest in learning about conservation and working outdoors and be passionate about helping to protect wildlife at local, national and international level.

Entry requirements:

  • Minimum of two Higher qualification passes, grade C or above, one of which should be a Science subject (Environmental Science desirable) plus English and Mathematics at SCQF Level 5 (equivalent).

  • NQ6 Animal Biology and Conservation.

  • A relevant National Certificate at level 6 in Science or equivalent.

  • A demonstrated interest in environmental conservation through volunteer activities/employment.

  • Completion of a detailed Personal Statement is a requirement for interview.

  • The Physical Environment and the effects on wildlife distribution

As part of your course, you will complete a work placement in a Local Natural reserve (LNR). You will also investigate a wildlife management project.
