Clinical Support Worker
Overview
The Clinical Support programme, delivered in partnership with NHS Lanarkshire, equips you with essential employability and clinical skills, providing a clear pathway to a career as a healthcare support worker with NHS Lanarkshire. Over six weeks, you will benefit from the guidance of a dedicated team of College and NHS trainers.
This programme is ideal for those with experience in care or an interest in pursuing a role in a health or clinical environment.
The following costs will be covered as part of the course: Travel, work placement workwear (tunic, trousers, shoes and staff badge) and childcare.
To access this course, you must be unemployed or work less than 16 hours per week.
Entry
- No formal entry requirements, though some experience of care is advantageous
- Applicants must 18+ years of age and reside in North Lanarkshire
- Participation at an information session and interview forms part of the selection criteria
- Applicants must be unemployed or work less than 16 hours per week
Learn
The delivery of the programme is split over 6 weeks, Monday to Friday:
Weeks 1 - 2
- Confidence building
- Personal resilience
- Team building / collaborative skills
- Organisational and problem-solving skills
- IOSH Working Safely (Industry qualification)
- Values and Principles in Care (SQA qualification)
Weeks 3 - 4
- Moving and handling techniques
- Infection control
- Tissue viability
- Basic life support
- Clinical practice and induction standards
Weeks 5 - 6
Participants will thereafter progress into a two-week work placement on the NHS wards in a local hospital where you will receive further mentoring and have the opportunity to demonstrate your newly developed hygiene and clinical practice skills.
